Welcome to VITA NOVA! Please sit down and wait here.

This is a multi- functional client room. This is your zone, you will not have to move between wards. The functions of delivery, checkup, postpartum, and minor Neo-Natal care take place here. Make your self at home!

Each room has large windows towards green areas and they bring in daylight to this homelike yet professional space.

The lovely 20 sqm private terrace works promotes physical activity and connection to nature.

In this design vision, focus is put on the client and her family. This space promotes the involvement of loved ones in the clients care process. It is possible for several family members to stay overnight with the care receiver.

Each room has its own private spa. The space can be divided into two parts, where one can be used as a shower and wc area and the other as a bath and relaxation area.

The room design gives women the freedom of choice. Each women has her own preferences and wishes, and it is important to consider her wishes.

After delivery, women/ family members can spend time io one of the dayroom of a ward. Each dayroom open up towards the inner couryard.

To make the design flexible we are working with a 3m grid structure. The grid is build of cubes (modules) with fixed dimentions (6x6m). There are 3 different types of module in the grid; transparent, semi- transparent and solid. The transparent modules represent open spaces (without four walls) and direct contact with the outside. The semi-transparent modules stand for rooms with visible contact with nature and sunlight. The solid modules stand for  core functions, vertical connection etc.

BB Stockholm is a maternity clinic at Danderyd Hospital, Stockholm.

Their philosophy is to focus, and welcome the new family by providing support, guidance and encouragement in parenting. They are engaged in health care during pregnancy, childbirth and also have gynecological outpatients.

There are two wards at the clinic, maternity (floor level 9) and postnatal care department (floor level 4).

These two departments were renovated in 2001 and have the same appearance; warm, inviting, professional yet relaxed feeling. The clinic not only stands out from the rest of the Danderyd hospital’s character, but also from all of the maternity wards/departments that we have visited so far.

Walls have a soft green tone and together with the “wooden” floor, nature motived art and the subtle niches in the corridor, make the relaxes the visitor at once.

The patient rooms have two characters; the “birthing room” and the “family room”. The “birthing rooms” have activating symbols, bright colors, furniture and items that communicate strength, hope and courage. The “family room” has a more layed back character with softer light and furniture for rest.

All rooms are single patient rooms of generous size, private WC and shower. The family rooms are designed in a way so that a family of four can stay in the room overnight.

Gudrun Abascal, a midwife and author of the book “att föda” has created the design together will 3DO architects.
